Europe: Accomodations

04/30 by Heather

Finally I have more Europe updates to bring you! We are only two weeks out from our trip. We booked some of our hotels and hostels on Tuesday. I still have a ton to do before we go but I am getting there. I will have internet access in most places where we are staying so I can keep in touch and blog while on our trip.

Hostels: 2 hostels – Prague, Czech Republic & Budapest, Hungary

We booked both of the hostels we are staying in at hostelworld.com. We had three major requirements when looking for a hostel. Dave really wanted to stay in a private room for just the two of us. I was fine with roughing it and staying in a dorm style room with several other people but I think when it actually comes to the trip I will be super thankful for spending a few extra bucks each night to have some privacy. Our second requirement is that our hostels are in walking distance from the city center. We want to walk most places. If the hostel was too far out of the city center we nixed it. The last requirement of our hostel stay is internet in our room. I know myself well… I will need my internet. Each of our hostels have wireless internet in the rooms, which will hopefully be working while we are there (you never know).

Hotels: 3 hotels –   Pilsen, Czech Republic   -  Vienna, Austria  –   Rome, Italy

We found some great hotels! We decided to look up hotel prices just for fun to see where it would be cheaper to stay in nicer places. The best value for our money is our hotel in Pilsen, Czech Republic. We found a Courtyard Marriott that equals out to $70 a night! I’ve been racking up the Marriott points so hopefully after all of our business trips and our Europe trip we will get a free night somewhere. In Vienna we booked what looks like a decent 3 star hotel in walking distance of the Opera House and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. We also booked a hotel in Rome on booking.com.

Couchsurfing: 0 places

Our couch surfing experience was a bust. We tried finding people to stay with in Prague, Budapest, and Rome, and so far no one. We sent out 8 requests, got 6 no’s, 2 unanswered. Unfortunatley we just signed up for Couchsurfing.com so we have yet to host anybody on our own couch. We were looking forward to meeting people in each country but it looks like that we won’t be doing that by couchsurfing.

  3. hey heather, concerning couchsurfing… have you gotten someone to, i think it is, ‘validate’ you. i have a feeling you have. but basically, someone on couchsurfing just oks you as someone people can trust.

i just think its odd that you would get 6 no’s!

  4. I have gotten validated and I had a friend leave a comment on our wall on couchsurfing. 2 of the people we contacted were out of the country at that time the other 4 already had couchsurfers.
